The September 2004 Gospocentric release of “The J. Moss Project” marks the beginning of a long-awaited chapter in the career of its brilliant and gifted artist, Detroit’s own James Moss.  A name that will surely ring a bell among most music lovers who tend to carefully peruse liner notes.  Moss has racked up a string of impressive credits over the last decade, along with Paul Allen and Walter Kearney, his partners in PAJAM, one of urban contemporary music’s premiere production companies.  While contributing as co-writer and/or producer on projects for mega acts such as N’Sync and Dru Hill on the secular side and the likes of Hezekiah Walker and his cousin, Karen Clark-Sheard in the gospel realm, Moss has certainly enjoyed phenomenal success.  Yes, Moss could easily have coasted along while remaining on the cutting edge of a career he was truly called to.  However, his passion ran a little deeper than that, and after years of yearning and prayerfully seeking his time to step out from behind the controls, that day is finally here.

J. MossIn a CD packed with an explosive sound from start to finish, Moss sings about issues every walk of life can relate to with an infectious energy that just doesn’t let up throughout the 11 tracks. Yet even with its decidedly modern edge, the songs still capture the essence of that unmistakable gospel sound. In the opening number “I Wanna Be” Moss sings about striving to be all that God wants us to be as the music bounces with the enthusiasm of a young Christian with newly rediscovered zeal.  Hip-Hop flavor infused “You Brought Me Out” thanks God for having taken him out of the world, “Don’t Let” encourages us to hold on to our joy, while giving us a taste of a more traditional sounding production,  and just try to keep still while listening to “Psalm 150”, a jam fit for your local praise party!  With its quick and catchy pieces, it may seem hard to stay off your feet while listening to this CD, but you’re just as bound to be inspired to keep your hands outstretched through the powerful ballads and worship songs like “We Must Praise”, and “The More I Think.”       A must have for fans of both Gospel and R&B music, this CD will  appeal to those who are newly seeking the Lord, and those who began walking with Him long ago.

Clearly, Moss’s patience has not been in vain.  Now that his time to step to the forefront as a gospel artist has arrived, not only has The J. Moss Project showcased some of the sharpest instincts on the urban music scene today, but the world is now aware that James Moss is also a masterful vocalist and a true minister of music with a passion for winning souls to Christ.
