GINA GREEN
 July 2006, BlackGospel.com

Singer/Songwriter Gina Green has a fresh sound for this generation. Known for her vibrant spirit and silky-smooth vocal style, Gina has mesmerized audiences worldwide. Her debut album “In His Time”, released in 1996 on Grape Tree Records (under her then-current name—Gina Brown), received countless reviews in local, regional and national press publications and sold over 10,000 copies worldwide. Gina followed up in 2003 with her second release entitled “Changes”, which also garnered many notable reviews and solid sales. “Tell ‘Um”, Gina’s highly-anticipated third release is being released by Trendency Records on July 25th, 2006. “Tell ‘Um” compels both Christians and non-believers to either connect with or rediscover their first love. It stresses the importance of loving Jesus more than anything in this world and the importance of showing love and kindness toward one another. “Tell ‘Um” inspires listeners to hope, persevere, worship, praise, and prepare for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Each song on the CD relates to the trials and tribulations people go through while trying to fill that “God-shaped hole” in their lives.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Gina’s family later relocated to Inglewood, California. Her father, now a pastor, introduced her and her three sisters to Jesus at a young age and encouraged them to fall in love with the Lord. At age three, Gina made the decision to invite Christ into her life. Her gifting as a vocalist became evident very early on. At the tender age of five, Gina was already dazzling audiences! Her young classmates would gather around at recess to listen to Gina sing songs from her favorite artists. Upon hearing about Gina’s “angelic voice”, her elementary school principal offered to become her booking agent. Gina went on to perform at hospitals, school assemblies, restaurants and charities. After her parent’s divorce at age eight, Gina experienced her first encounter with singing for the Lord at her father’s church. But, like many others, as she grew older Gina experienced many challenging experiences in her life which drew her away from the Lord. The divorce weighed heavily on the family and left Gina as the daughter of a single mother struggling to make ends meet for a fatherless family of five. Like far too many single-parent families, Gina’s family ended up on welfare. After more than a handful of family relocations, nine schools, and a bout with homelessness, Gina’s emotional and spiritual life began to suffer greatly. She later ran away from home looking for a better life. She was searching for something more.

At the age of sixteen, Gina met an older man who swept her off her feet and married him soon after. She thought she had found her savior. But what she found was an abusive relationship with a drug-addicted husband. It was at this time of greatest need when she found a small church of loving people who embraced her as family. Gina rededicated her life to Christ and completed the transaction she had initiated as a child. Jesus became the Lord of her life! As Gina discovered her true identity in Christ, her husband became even more abusive. The need to leave that hopeless, abusive situation became crystal-clear. Even though life was difficult for Gina during her time as a single parent, she witnessed time and time again the miraculous hand of the Lord upon her life. As Gina moved to a new church, she was offered and accepted the opportunity to glorify the Lord through song. This new-found purpose ignited a desire in Gina to minister to others with the incredible talent she had been given.

At one point, Gina was approached by a gospel rapper, the late Regis Irving (a.k.a. “Mr. Reg Nice”), who asked her to sing backup vocals on “The GOG’Z” debut CD. Doors continued to open and Gina was soon offered a contract by Grape Tree Records in 1995. Gina’s debut CD, “In His Time”, was released in 1996 under her then-legal name “Gina Brown”. The album shot up the U.K. Gospel charts and topped out at #2. Sales exceeded 10,000 units worldwide. Around that same time, Gina met a wonderful, caring man named Isom Green, Jr. They soon married and proceeded to walk the unfolding path laid at their feet. Gina and Isom, a jazz musician, began working on Gina’s next album entitled “Changes”, which was released in 2003. The couple’s second (and Gina’s third) album, “Tell ‘Um”, was originally released in late 2005 on Rite-Step Records. The label folded before the album was released and, unfortunately, the album never received the exposure it so rightly deserves. 2006 brought a new and upcoming gospel label into the picture for Gina.

Trendency Records, a member of Chrematizo Label Group located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, signed Gina to a three album deal – the first of which will be a nationwide release of “Tell ‘Um”. The CD will be hitting the streets July 25th and will be available through major distribution channels. Two titles from “Tell ‘Um” are already charting radio stations around the country. The first single entitled “Hiding Place” is an upbeat track which stresses the importance of placing faith in Jesus Christ as trials and tribulations present themselves in life. “Testimony” is certain to become an inspirational classic. With a slow, moody vibe, “Testimony” revisits the theme of the need to place faith in Christ.

Gina has performed on the same stage with Tonex, J Moss, TBN's Bill & Rene Morris, The Gospel Gangsters, two-time dove award nominees The GOG’Z, Brent Jones and many others. Gina will be on tour in support of “Tell ‘Um” in the coming months. In the downtime between events, Gina is working on her highly-anticipated fourth album (tentatively titled “Just As I Am”), slated for release in the summer of 2007.
