PRESS RELEASE
WE REMEMBER: Gospel EUR Editor, Donald McIntyre,
Passes
Donald McIntyre, the editor and force behind Gospel
EUR has died. McIntyre, 45, died Sunday morning in
Dallas, Texas, said his mother, Mrs. Betty
Hornbuckle.
Mr. McIntyre, who lived alone, was discovered in his
apartment last Friday. When taken to a local
hospital, it was determined that he was in a coma
and had suffered brain damage and was only able to
breathe through life-support.
When asked how she would like for him to be
remembered, Mrs. Hornbuckle said Donald was a good
son to her. "He was a sweet person; he was my baby
and he loved his mama. And I'm gonna miss my baby,
He didn't forget to bring me flowers, I guess I
won't be gettin' them now, but he gave me flowers
while I lived. You don't hardly find to many young
men that have time for their mother, but Donald
did."
In addition to serving as Editor of Gospel EUR, Mr.
McIntyre worked as director for Vickie Winans" Shake
Yourself Loose" tour; an assistant to the press
coordinator for the Stellar Gospel Music Awards
Press Room, and as a contributing writer for Gospel
Today Magazine. Donald was the project coordinator
for the next Dottie Peoples recording (scheduled for
January 22nd); tour director for the spring '05 Mike
Matthews gospel play and an assistant to the
Superbowl Gospelfest.
EUR's Lee Bailey said that he will be missed, but
his work will continue... "I was shocked and
saddened to hear of Donald's death, but he's in a
better place now. I will miss Donald's incredible
dedication and enthusiasm to his job as editor and
creative force for Gospel EUR. Our plan is to carry
on the mission he started."
In addition to his mother, Mr. McIntyre is survived
by his father, Donald McIntyre, Sr.; two siblings,
Anthony & Freda; a son, Donald and three
grandchildren.
At EUR press time, funeral details were not
complete.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE...
Donald McIntyre was my FRIEND! I was his "Baby
Girl"! When I heard the news of his passing, tears
rolled down my face as I thought about my good times
with Donald. I thought about the hours we spent on
the phone and Donald would vent to me about his
concerns in regards to the gospel industry. His
slogan was... "Gospel News, you can USE!" I begin to
laugh at his stories about his Aunt (who had a crazy
name that I can't remember) she had a one hit record
and she couldn't sing. To this day, I don't know if
it was a true story, but, it was one of the funniest
stories Donald would always tell. I thought about
the words of encouragement he gave me in terms of
Black Gospel Promo and how he supported my efforts.
I thought about the little speeches I used to give
him about not being concerned with what others are
doing but, staying focused on what God called you to
do. I thought about the time when Donald, Melanie
Few and I hung out together in Dallas at the Bishop
T. D. Jakes Hallmark Cards launch celebration.
Donald didn't want to leave the airport until he was
sure that Melanie and I were on our flights. We made
him go home. :-) I thought about the time we spent
together in Detroit at the Vanessa Williams Release
Party at Straight Gate Church. I thought about the
two contracts I received last month from Donald and
how he was soooooooo concerned about me getting paid
for my work. I thought about the time we spent
together in Miami three weeks ago at the Bobby Jones
Gospel Artist Retreat and how we laughed together. I
tried to remember everytime I saw Donald and he gave
me a hug. I was looking forward to seeing Donald in
Memphis at the Dottie People's live recording... we
were making plans.
My last thought was the instant Message that I sent
to Donald on Wednesday... "Donald... are you
there?"... 20 minutes later... "Baby Girl, I'm
here... are you there?"... Yes, I'm here... I don't
want anything, just wanted to wish you a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year". "Same to you Baby
Girl, I hope you have a good year... I will send you
your itinerary". "Thanks dearheart, I love you." "I
love you too!" On that note... "I LOVE YOU"... are
three powerful words and I'm glad that those three
words were the last words spoken from both us before
he departed this world to be with our Lord.
Donald and I made plans to see each other again in
Memphis, little did we know that "our plans" would
be cancelled. Call your friend and family members
and tell them... "I love you". If you had a falling
out with someone, life is too short and who cares
who's fault it was. Please call them and tell them
that you love them.
I will miss my Friend... Donald, I love you!
