HIP-HOP: THE PEOPLES
CHOICE
by J. Newcomb (holiness@blackgospelradio.net)
The truth is, it is not about Hip-hop it’s about
mans’ inability to let go of the old nature and see themselves as God sees
them. The Body of Christ will always be divided amongst itself as long as
believers continue to embrace God under the government of their own will.
Believers argue their point from a strong conviction they believe God has given
them. They often load themselves with scripture to support their conviction,
but what’s not seen is the error of their conviction, in fact the conviction is
not generated by the Holy Spirit its generated by their own will. Instead of
opening the bible and seeing the need for deliverance they strengthen walls
defense and fortify their stand in error. “And in them is fulfilled the
prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not
understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: for this people’s
heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they
have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with
their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted and
I should heal them” (Matthew 13:14-15). When opening the bible if
one does not avail his/herself to the government of the Holy Spirit they subject
themselves to their own will, which causes them to be susceptible to the
suggestion that they will make. In other words your flesh voices out your will
with biblical references that support your cause and not the cause of God.
With this
inappropriate alignment we engraft things into our lives outside of God’s will
i.e. Hip-Hop, night clubs, dating lines, denominations, whatever the flesh can
conceive. “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about
to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the
righteousness of God” (Romans 10:3). Christendom must avoid error at all
cost and allow the Holy Spirit to govern its convictions, and be cautious that
they are not serving themselves or people, instead of God.
This generation of believers is plagued with the sins of our forefathers.
Consider Saul the son of Kish the Benjamite. The Lord commanded him to “Smite
Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not;” but Saul and
the people spared Agag the king, and the best of the land to sacrifice unto the
Lord thy God. So, many times we do things to accommodate people, and the very
thing that we use for accommodation we offer unto God.
For example with Hip-Hop
(the old nature), we have spared what God has commanded us to destroy and our
excuse is “lets make it holy so we can use it.” God has put us in a position to
effect the lives of his people and we have embraced accommodations; instead of
serving God we have become servants of men. “Hath the Lord as great
delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and
idolatry. Because thou has rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected
thee from being king” (1Samuel 15:22,23). If the Body of Christ does not
get a grip we are in danger of being rejected by God.
Finally, we pray, Lord forgive our error and leaning towards our own understanding. We submit ourselves to the government of the Holy Spirit, let your spirit expose to us the error of our ways. Deliver us from ourselves that we may be effective in the lives of those you have ordained for us to reach. Lord we lay aside every weight and sin that we may serve you with all of our heart. Thank you for your mercy, because of your mercy we are not utterly consumed. So, God we respond to your mercy with obedience, not our will but your will be done. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
