Can Hip Hop Be Holy? (PART II)

(The Revelation of Hip-Hop)

Afrika Bambata introduced the name Hip-Hop in the 70’s and before the name was introduced the culture and stronghold had already existed. Emceeing, Dee-jaying, beat-boxing, and pop locking had been underway for about 8 or 10 years long before the name Hip-Hop was introduced. Hip-Hop consists of many styles, characteristics, and genres all combined to make one unit. Believers must understand that Hip-Hop is a legion not just a spirit but a legion a host of spirits. It is a legion that has developed a stronghold and created a culture.

Hip-Hop is like the taskmasters found in Exodus 1:9-11 notice that the new Pharaoh (Satan) recognized that the children of Israel (chosen of God) were more and mightier. So he assigned taskmasters (Hip-Hop) to afflict them and the end result, treasure cities were built for Pharaoh (Satan). No matter how hard believers try they cannot separate the taskmasters (Hip-Hop) from their assignment. The assignment is to exalt Pharaoh; men can put Holy in front of Hip-Hop it still doesn’t change the assignment. Believers can even try to use Hip-Hop as a tool to evangelize but they must realize that the embrace of Hip-Hop is associated with strongholds. With this understanding believers must ask themselves are “we using Hip-Hop or is Hip-Hop using us?”

To elaborate on the Hip-Hop movement I’m including my personal testimony.

About three years ago my partner and I developed an Internet broadcast titled "Holy Hip Hop with a Purpose". Upon recent convictions about "Hip Hop" we stopped the show. We both began to seek God and do research about Hip Hop only to discover that the birthing of Hip Hop was out of men who were under the government of Satan. Rom.6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey , his servants ye are to whom ye obey". Then we discovered that Hip Hop and music are not synonymous mainstream media and society made the two synonymous and now Christians are making the mistake of making them both synonymous. So, we opposed this question to God why would you birth what we call today "Holy Hip Hop?" We then took a journey through the bible and came across scriptures like Exodus 23:24. "Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images". Ephesians 4:22 - “That ye put of concerning the former conversation (conduct) concerning the old man", Ephesians 4:24 “ and put on the new man. II Corinthians 6:17 "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you" and 1 John 2:15 - "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world." Now, from understanding scripture would God really birth what we call today Holy Hip-Hop knowing it’s a direct association with the old nature? We concluded if God made Hip-Hop holy it would be a contradiction to his word. So, we renamed the show Gospel Expressions in the form of Rhythm and Poetry and we play an array of artists and many styles of music.

In conclusion Hip-Hop is identified by many styles, characteristics, and genres combined into one unit. It cannot be separated from its assignment to exalt Satan. If God made Hip-Hop holy it would be a contradiction to his word. Man, not God, in his attempt to try and salvage the old nature has declared Hip Hop Holy!
