Like the branches of a tree that derive its supplement and strength from its roots, the book, Branches of Life speaks to the various phrases of life and the quest to become rooted in a source that is everlastingly consistent and unchanging. Khrystal G. Black relates the various stages of her personal journey of spiritual growth through devotional, poetical and biblical verses. Throughout the book, Khrystal unravels the route to evolution through a process that takes root from continual supplication and application of the WORD that when imbedded in fertile ground, brings forth transformation and growth; and thus, birthed the phrase, “from seedless to fruitful.”
From struggle and temptation, through entrapment and pain, into enslavement and deception, the book shows transformation of personal trials and tribulations into one of victory and triumph. The poem, Mask tells the tale of becoming someone else and losing oneself in the process to gain acceptance. Too frequently, we fall prey and become victims at the mercy of self enlightenment and growth. We frequently aspire to please our love ones or those we believe we love, but if only we stay true to ourselves and our God, then we can become masters of our own lives and destiny.
“…But instead of walking away, I allowed myself to stray to a place it was never destined to be.” - Forbidden Fruits. Deceptive Words, Forbidden Fruits speak of the power of the senses, whether be it through words or yearning and longing for an undesirable pleasure that is ungodly and that threatens our moral and spiritual growth.
Sometimes certain situations and circumstances provoke or stir up a reaction that is familiar to our former selves that cause us to flounder. Soul Searching, Stripping of My Skin tackle such issues and point to a path of enlightenment. “….I closed my eyes and began to see that my place was always with thee…” - Soul Searching.
Thunder & Lightning, Tears, Free, Peace, Daughter unleash the shackles of enlightenment through prayer, meditation, reconciliation, cleansing – shedding of tears; allowing God to work His ways within us, so we can be healed of our sins and transgressions. “…Finally, after years of fear, I had allowed the rain to penetrate my soul and wash me clean.” - Thunder & Lightning. “…My spirit soars and now flies to deeper depths and higher highs. I’m free to be.” - Free.
A Whisper, Song in My Heart, The Potter’s Wheel, Tomorrow, The Fountain speak of the blessings derived through trust and faith in the unwavering hands of God. Our good God strengthens and heals, provides for our every needs, he mends our broken hearts and picks up us when we weep; he is our rock, our strength and our shield. He is our everlasting fountain. “…Just know that He is sovereign and with His everlasting hand, He can give you a new tomorrow if you give Him your today.” – Tomorrow.
Branches of Life is a token gift to its readers, revealing a bird’s eye view of a woman’s personal plights and problems that have served as testimony to the awesome wonders and miraculous works of a life bonded in the arms of God. This slim, purse-sized booklet may be small on size but is mighty in weight when it comes to spiritual food and supplement for the soul. Khrystal G. Black states, “I re-gained a new sense of self, a new strength…a renewed love relationship with Jesus! It is sweeter than I’d ever imagined.” This is the premise from which the book has been birthed and I believe it is this inspiration she hopes to convey to her readers.
